Long-time Galway Jazz Festival stalwart, guitarist Aengus Hackett holds a 1st class BMus in Jazz Performance from the conservatory of Music, Amsterdam. Prior to completing his degree, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the prestigious Skidmore Jazz Institute in New York, and has studied pedagogy, composition, arrangement, South Indian music and music composition in a range of different institutes.
As both teacher and performer, Aengus' contibution to the Galway music scene is immense. Coming from a year as Head of Department at the Guitar Academy in Amsterdam, he now teaches all styles and levels of guitar to children and adults at the Galway Music Academy.
As a performer, Aengus is the primary force behind:
- 'The Irish-Turkish Project', which marries elements of Turkish folk music with Irish Traditional music.
- 'Zinc', an improvised music collaboration encompassing many musical styles and experimental electronica.
- 'Dinasour', an Amsterdam based trio whose music combines elements of Jazz, Latin American folk, film music and rock.
